Sports and activities are keeping us very busy! We have really appreciated a few weekends with no games or activities, and know that we are getting ready to get back into the crazy life once school starts. But we wouldn't have it any other way!
Both of our girls absolutely love to be involved in groups and activities! Being a part of a group or team can be so beneficial to children.
McKenna's Activities
Baseball is one of her favorites! She loves to smack that ball and run around the bases. She really started learning how to play in the field well this year, and had a blast! Check out her bright batting helmet and cleats...she just had to have them!!! Next spring McKenna is old enough to start softball, so we will be transitioning to that.
Basketball was a new sport of McKenna. She is quite the guard! She never quite got the ball high enough to make a basket, but tried with all her heart each time!
Soccer was also new to McKenna last fall, but you would've thought she had been playing for a few years. She zooms up and down that field like a rocket. It's so much fun to watch. We are getting ready to start back up in a few weeks. And I should mention that Jeremy coaches McKenna in all of these sports!
Things the girls do together
The girls are finally getting some swimming lessons. We go to a local place called Indy Island. It's an indoor facility. Since Macy struggles often to control her body temp, we knew we needed somewhere indoor and heated. It was a perfect match! We've now taken 7 lessons, and the girls are making huge improvements. They are able to tread water on their own. Macy doesn't like getting her face under the water, but will paddle across the pool. McKenna on the other hand just sticks her face right in and takes off. They are so much fun to watch!
The girls also do gymnastics together. McKenna is in a 5 & 6 year old class, and Macy is in the Bronze Advanced class. Gymnastics has helped Macy's flexibility and strength. She still struggles sometimes making her body move in the right way, but she is doing fantastic. McKenna has benefited as well, but I can see this as a sport she may give up due to her other sports.
Macy's Activities
A few years ago we were in search of a sport that Macy could do since she can't do anything that requires much endurance and cannot do any contact sports. We decided golf might just be the thing for her. It was so exciting to see that she actually took right to it! She has quite the swing! She has been taking lessons from a golf pro at a local golf course. She absolutely loves it!!!
Girl Scouts has been heaven sent for Macy. She is an amazingly giving and caring person, so this is such a great activity for her. This is a picture of her working at a local food pantry by packaging meals for others. The have volunteered at the animal shelter, made gifts for troops, visited nursing homes, handmade blankets for Riley Hospital, and raised money through lemonade stands for organizations like Make-A-Wish. It has been so wonderful for her!
So as you can see our girls are very busy! We are so blessed that they have been given these opportunities and are able to participate. Can't wait to see what the future holds!
