If you have never been to Savannah, GO! It's such a great city with so much to see! It's great for families, couples, friends, etc. No matter who you decide to go with or why, I guarantee you will have a great time!
Macy's Girl Scout Troop has been saving money for years for this trip. It's the BIG trip that many Girl Scout Troops take, but one that not everyone is ever able to make. We were very lucky that our leader and cookie mom were so dedicated to making this trip happen. They planned each and every moment perfectly, and it was the trip of a lifetime for these girls.
We had a total of 11 girls and 8 adults. 19 people, 4 hotel rooms, and a partridge and a pear tree. Amazingly, we all made it work. My room had 6 people in it (3 girls, 3 moms). We made it work perfectly with having a shower schedule and an order of getting ready in the morning. Macy was always the first one in bed and asleep, and the last one to crawl out of bed in the morning to get ready. This trip was the most active she's been since before she got the flu back in March, so she was worn out each day.
Our hotel had breakfast included, we typically had pre-ordered box lunches daily that we ate while out and about in the city, and went out of dinner. When we arrived in Savannah, I headed to the local Publix and got Macy bread, snacks, and lunch food since she is gluten free. She ate toast with Nutella, yogurt, and a protein shake each morning, ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch daily, and was able to eat at most dinner places. It worked out great! I was really worried since we rarely eat dinner out.
I am going to share some pics and highlights of our days in Savannah. I hope you enjoy them!
Day 1: Lunch in Wrights Square, Julliette Gordon Low's Birthplace, Laurel Grove Cemetery, and a Pool Party. Julliette's birthplace was beautiful! The home has almost all of the original furniture in it except for about 6 pieces.
Day 2: Wormsloe, Old Fort Jackson, Lady & Sons Restaurant, and a Haunted Carriage Ride.
Wormsloe is beautiful. It has a long tree-lined drive that is definitely picture worthy! At Old Fort Jackson, the girls were treated like soldiers, the mom's had to fire a cannon, and we watched a soldier shoot a cannon at a cruise ship. Lady & Sons is a Paula Deen Restaurant...enough said! The haunted carriage ride was a fun way to view the city at night and hear some great haunted stories.
Day 4: Byrd's Cookie Shop and Factory, The Pirate's House, Tybee Island Lighthouse, and Captain Mike's Dolphin Tour.
We were able to tour Byrd's Cookie Factory. They make amazing cookies, and even had gluten free options for Macy. They even gave her the 2 bags of gluten free cookies that they opened for her. The Tybee Island Lighthouse is 187 steps, and we hiked all the way up. Macy and I are both afraid of heights so that was pretty interesting once we got up there, lol. Captain Mike's Dolphin Tour was the highlight of my trip! We saw so many dolphins!
Day 5: Trolley Hop on Hop off Tour
We rode the tour first from start to finish to focus on the history of the city, and then we rode a 2nd time hopping on and off at our favorite places. We stopped at two churches, saw a movie set (for the new Lady and the Tramp live action movie), had ice cream at Leopold's Ice Cream Shop, and traveled up and down River Street (such a cute area).
Day 6: Bonaventure Cemetery, Girl Scout Headquarters, and back to River Street for more fun!
Our Troop now officially has a brick at GS Headquarters after making a donation. It was a great surprise for the girls!
Day 7: Relax, Movie Day
Our final day there consisted of only a few of us left as most of our troop had already headed home. We had some outdoor ideas planned, but it decided to rain. So, we headed to the movies! We enjoyed sleeping in, relaxing, and watching Aladdin!
It was such a fantastic trip! I probably could've done 1 blog post of each day of the trip, but who has time for that!?!?! I hope you enjoyed seeing the trip through our eyes, now go check out this adorable city for yourself!
